THE MORE THINGS CHANGE..........

"These events attract too many people of a variety few care to be around"

- actual quote from The Morning Call newspaper blog, June 1, 2011

I have had a yearly grassroots event in Allentown, PA which would more likely be compared to a fledgling street festival than large city and international events such as Mayfair or Musikfest, but its' growth has placed me on track to obtain future success.

I believe ALL events, if truly for the community, need to be free to expose those who may never have the opportunity, to different types of culture, music, and art forms. My UPWARD BOUND, ALLENTOWN event has always brought hundreds of those "undesirables" to the location between 6th and 7th Street on Hamilton Street, for the past 3 years, and I have NEVER had a fight, stabbing, or negative incident. It was always from 12pm - 6pm and we have had sponsors that have included corporations such as CAPITAL BLUE CROSS; it was attended by everyone, from ALL walks of life; local businesses, local bands, local schools, etc. took part and had a GREAT time!

Encouraged, I, then, created an event called THE LEHIGH VALLEY MUSIC AND FASHION EXPO which was held on MAY 21 and 22nd, 2010 at the BANANA FACTORY/ARTSQUEST in Bethlehem, PA. Again, we had hundreds come out and there was not one slugfest, drug-bust, or anything of that nature. People came out and were educated about the music industry and we had artists which ranged from jazz to hip hop to rock to accoustic soul.

My last event was at THE AMERICAN ON WHEELS Museum. It was THE LEHIGH VALLEY COMMUNITY HEALTH EXPO on November 13, 2010! I bought the whole museum for the day and allowed the community to come in and see, experience, and learn about this location, as well as local businesses and health professionals. And, yet, even ,after all of this, the preceding comment only shows me there are alot of people in the LEHIGH VALLEY who have alot to learn about what it will take to make Allentown, PA great again....

It's not about seperation, excluson, or avoidance. It's about finding common ground and collaboration, because WE undesirables aren't going anywhere.

DO IT YOURSELF.........LET A PROFESSIONAL DO IT FOR YOU! by DZR CONSULTING

A few months ago I was a guest on a local radio program. During my appearance I was asked a question that has been on my heart for a little while. The question “Should I use a professional or should I use one of the many tools available to do it myself?” came about. As technology grows, the amount of do it yourself tools have become more readily available and extremely affordable. These tools allow you to run your business yourself and manage your company effectively. In addition, they keep your bottom line cost lower. Currently, we are living in times where saving money is very important, especially with small business. With the cost of everything coming to an all time high, owners must take into account of every dollar spent. However, at the cost of saving money, many have forgotten about the one commodity that is not able to be replenished. That commodity is TIME. You are only afforded 24 hours in a day and once those hours are gone you cannot get them back.

With all things considered, my response to the caller was; “If you absolutely need to do it yourself because your budget cannot afford it, then by all means do it yourself until you are able to get that load off your shoulders.” But, using a professional is always the best choice when it comes to certain services. A professional will open up valuable time and take away from some of the day to day stress of running an effective business. Believe it or not, in this economic climate the cost of services such as accountants, lawyers and business development consultants has become more affordable.

DZR Consulting was founded in February of 2009 to focus on the needs of the small business. After entering into the commercial mortgage field after 10 years in the residential mortgage market, we realized that there was a growing need to assist smaller business in the development process. DZR has teamed up with several top industry companies to help business owners grow and improve their businesses.

OUT LOUD !!!!

"OUT LOUD"

WITH CYNTHIA RODRIGUEZ

"LET'S TALK ABOUT SAME-SEX MARRIAGE"

Just for the record, I am not exactly the marrying type. I've never been married. Although, I've officially been engaged twice. To women. Not that we could have been legally married in this state of Pennsylvania anyway, but obviously neither of those worked out. It was for the best.

After my last relationship, I decided no more relationships, so I've had more than my share of affairs with married and/or "taken" women.

That's about the extent of my experience with marriage, (or lack of). Honestly, I've never really been a fan, or believer in the "institution of marriage". For the most part, I don't think most people take it seriously. Just take a look at the Ashley Madison website, and you 'll see what I'm talking about. And that is supposedly "straight" people on there.

But that's just me. I've grown quite comfortable in my spinster status. I'm not necessarily against marriage, on the contrary, I am VERY pro-marriage for ANYONE who wants to go for it. I just wanted to share my own personal opinion, and experience (or again, lack of) on the subject before I moved on. However, that is not the point of this little essay. The point is even though I'm not really interested at this point to get married myself, I don't appreciate anyone telling me that I can't get married, or that I shouldn't.

Quite frankly, just the whole hypocrisy of it makes me angry. There are many married people out there that are in the closet who should be with someone of the same sex, but noooo, it's not socially acceptable, and not legal, and they get way too comfortable with that lifestyle, and would rather sacrifice their happiness being who they really are, just so they won't be inconvenienced in any way. They just want to keep living the lie, and their double life, and take advantage of dumb Lesbians like me whenever they get the chance.

Tell me, who the HELL are all these politicians, religious nuts, and policy makers to tell us that our love is "wrong" and/or "sinful" when half of them are either cheating on their wives, are on the down low with their boyfriends, or flying to the Phillipines to have sex with a ten year old boy or some other human trafficked person. Supply & demand don't exist for nothin'.

I will never understand why it means SO much for other people to control the right for people in the gay community to get married. I mean seriously, we can't do any worse than any of you breeders have. It's not like you've set a great example for us anyway. A lot of you can't call yourselves "experts".

People don't realize how great it would be for the economy if society would open it's doors and welcome us into that crazy world of the mainstream "wedding culture". We like to spend money, too, you know.

No more of this city to city, state to state bullshit. There needs to be one flat, across the board Federal law making it legal for all us gays to be able to get married, once and for all.

You can't help who you love.

And on that note: Here is the shameless plug for my upcoming group art show:

"FREEDOM TO MARRY"

In honor of "PRIDE MONTH", we are recognizing and celebrating the boundless power of love, and the need to fight for our right to be in legal matrimony with our significant others if we choose to do so. As of now, for the most part, the legal system and our government do not acknowledge same-sex marriage. That puts a message out to society that it is wrong. We must not allow this! With this great event, we are saying we're queer, we're here, and our relationships are no less valuable than anyone else's. That we are united in stating:

"I DO" support the freedom to marry!

THOUGHTS THAT ARE STILL RELEVANT TODAY: ROUND AND ROUND WE GO.....

"Neither was poll respondent Jen Costello before she was let go from her nursing job at Westfield Medical Center on New Year's Eve. Costello, 37, of Schnecksville, said she's been searching ever since without luck." -The Morning Call

Yes, it is getting rough out here and times are changing. It used to be if you had a good job with a big company, you were immune to the craziness of financial hardship. It used to be if you worked in healthcare or other service related careers you felt safe from the winds of struggle. Well, at THIS moment, what was up is down and what was down is up, and everything is topsy turvy.
The demographics in Lehigh Valley has shifted. People have moved in and people have moved out. The only thing constant is change.
Now, you may not like the fact that "people of color" have moved in and are slowly but surely transforming from minority status to majority status,(and that is your right as an American) but I am here to tell you, we aren't going ANYWHERE. The best thing to do is to come together and have an open dialogue.
Everyone wants what is best for their children, families, and neighborhoods no matter what income bracket or nationality. Multi-culturalism, inter-racial, and urban landscapes may be unpleasant words for many, but THIS is the true future for many small and struggling towns in the LV. It's better to embrace, "assimilate", and use the resources readily available in the communities now, than to continue to wane nostalgic about what "used to be", miss opportunies, and pay for it later....
