IF YOU MISSED LAST NIGHT'S MEETING REGARDING THE INCINERATOR, HERE IS INFORMATION REGARDING THIS TOPIC THAT WILL AFFECT THE CITY AND ITS' RESIDENTS....

We need people to step up to speak at Tuesday evening's special city council meeting.  It's all about our ordinance and whether city council should vote to support it.  It doesn't stop us if they don't (it'll go to the voters in November if they don't pass it), but this is a good opportunity to educate people.

PLEASE come to the meeting on Tuesday (6pm, City Hall, 435 Hamilton St) and email me back if you're willing to speak.  You can take any of the myths and use it as your talking point.

You can also decide to take on any of the topics about incinerators in general.  See below for some of the main topics, and if you want to take one on, let me know and I'll get you the specific stuff you should know to say.

You can also find lots of great info here: http://www.energyjustice.net/incineration (after the text, the best reports to check out are the "Health Effects of Waste Incinerators" report and the top five links under the "GAIA" section).  The info on pyrolysis is most pertinent, since I think that's the type of incinerator Delta Thermo plans to use.

Incineration topics:
-language: incinerators vs. "waste-to-energy"
-most expensive way to make energy
-most expensive way to manage waste (more expensive than landfills)
-most polluting way to make energy (dirtier than coal power plants)
-most polluting way to manage waste
-it's not landfills vs. incinerators, but landfills vs. incinerator PLUS a smaller, more toxic ash landfill
-trash incineration = trash to toxic ash and toxic air emissions
-pollutants released & health impacts
-global warming impacts
-waste-OF-energy
-incineration vs. zero waste on jobs
-zero waste solutions
-incineration competes with recycling
-lack of adequate pollution monitoring
-property values
-environmental justice

Go get 'em!

Attached to this email are three letters: ONE to "artists"- any potential "performers" among We the People of any age who have a creative contribution from satiric to sublime concerning the value of clean water to the dangers of fracking our aquifers;

ONE to school personnel or teachers who may know any students who want to participate creatively AND/OR as "press corps" <----ANYONE who can record video or pictures on their mobile phone, camera, or iPad and get it onto YouTube, post to social media, or text to friends. We hope that people will do BOTH! Have your own ONE MINUTE and then "report" on everyone else!

And ONE to any businesses who recognize and honor our dependence as a community upon clean water supplies enough to make a tax-deductible charitable contribution to defray the expenses of our permit, band shell rental, and electric-- donations of ALL sizes welcomed!

PLEASE- if you know potential performers, people who work with students, or business people who may be interested in supporting THIS WEEKEND, PLEASE forward an appropriate letter to them and ask them to contact me: Julie Edgar 484.557.4182.
