IRS Announces Tax Season Filing Delay

Taxpayers will continue to feel the effects of the recent government shutdown.  With the government being closed from October 1 through October 17 this year, the IRS has announced that the start of the 2014 income tax filing season will be delayed by about one to two weeks.
Originally the filing season was scheduled to begin on January 21, 2014, but the IRS now needs additional time to program and test their tax processing systems since their offices were also closed during the shutdown.
Representatives from the IRS say they will try to shorten the delay, and will announce a firm date in December.  Taxpayers should expect that returns will not be able to be processed until at least January 28 but no later than February 4.
Please note the delay in the start of filing season does NOT affect the April 15 tax deadline.
