LCA Allentown Water Public Meetings‏

Lehigh County Authority (LCA) has scheduled a series of public meetings to provide information and answer questions about the City of Allentown water lease deal. Renew Lehigh Valley plans to attend these meetings to ask some questions of our own. We are very happy to see a public option selected, which allows for a level of public control to be maintained and an option for future regionalization to remain on the table. RenewLV does have some concerns, however, about adherence to smart growth principles with future development. RenewLV has been involved in water regionalization for many years advocating for regional collaboration of our more than three dozen water/wastewater systems. In 2009, RenewLV established a vision statement for regional water: The Lehigh Valley will establish a regional approach to managing water resources and services as a means of: ensuring affordable, reliable, and efficient water services; promoting public health; and preserving water resources. Now we need to continue to encourage LCA and the City of Allentown to uphold these smart growth principles and to maintain the sustainability of this precious natural resource. Join us at one of the following public meetings to hear more about the lease and to ask your own questions, encouraging LCA to adhere to smart growth principles. -Thursday, June 13th at the Jewish Community Center of Allentown -- 702 North 22nd Street, Allentown, PA -- from 7-8:30pm -Tuesday, June 18th at the East Side Youth Center -- 1140 East Clair Street, Allentown, PA -- from 7-8:30pm -Wednesday, June 19th at the Allentown Public Library -- 1210 Hamilton Street, Allentown, PA -- from 7-8:30pm For more information on the lease, visit: http://allentownwatersewer.com/
